Heading to Devastation 2011

Devastation 2011 is right around the corner and I have to say I’m really excited to be covering it. To be honest, this is my first video game convention/tournament/trade show that I will be covering. That said, I will overcome the supreme temptation to enter the Soul Calibur IV tournament and focus on sharing my experiences at Devastation 2011. So please be sure to check in within the coming days for daily updates about the event.

For those who are unaware, here is a quick rundown on Devastation 2011:

Devastation 2011 is a gaming convention and trade show that will take place at the Phoenix Convention Center in Arizona from Oct. 6th to Oct. 9th. There will be a myriad of tournaments for attendees to participate from Street Fighter 4 to Halo Reach  as well as representation from a host of supporters and vendors who cater to the gaming community. If you aren’t there to compete there are casual gaming areas set aside for people to play and hang out. There are also costume contests for all you cosplayers to show off your latest costumes in several categories. The tournaments will also be broadcast online by teamsp00ky, LEVELUP, One More Game and more.

To top it all off, Devastation 2011 is raising money for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital to install an entertainment center in each room for the kids to enjoy during long-term stays in which they may not be able to leave the room.  Anyone can make a donation to the hospital through the event’s website so be sure to check it out. After all, every little bit helps!

I’m headed to Devastation 2011’s Preview Night tonight at 6:00 p.m. so be sure to follow my Twitter feed @p_sotelo for updates!
